Personal Injury Primer ...
Should the police be called?
Yes; Call the police. Whether you are the driver of a vehicle, or a passenger, be sure to get name, address and telephone number of the other driver as well as their insurance company and the names and contact information of all witnesses.
If you are unable to obtain this information at the accident scene, you should obtain a copy of the police report of the incident as soon as possible thereafter.
Should the accident be reported to my insurance company even if I was not the party at fault?
Yes. You may have purchased medical payments benefits on your policy which would cover some of your medical costs during your treatment. You may also have purchased un-insured motorists coverage which could be important in the event that the at-fault party is not insured.
